My O.S. is Vista home premium and presumably running Windows Media Player 11. I now have no sound on this. Other applications that have sound are running fine, so presumably there is no problem with the sound card. I have transferred a couple of music tracks via USB stick to lap top and they play OK so it would seem that the music files or library have not been corrupted. I can't uninstall then reinstal Media Player as it is an integral element of the O.S.(If it can be uninstalled I don't know how) I tried to install Media Player 11 (from Windows Download Site) but after so far I get a dialogue box informing that a later version of M.P. is already installed and I can't install an earlier version over a later version. Has any one any ideas on why this occurred and how to resolve the problem?
The sound is set at about 50 percent (my normal level). A further thought here is to insatll M.P. version 12 but I am not sure if this version will run on Vista as I believe it is 64 bit Beta.
I have been using a wireless portable speaker with USB transmitter and am wondering if this is somehow cause of problem, but have been using this most days wiyhout any problems (the computer is upstairs and I have the speaker wherever I am downstairs) could this be relevant?
Thanks to all for replies. I have decided toupgrade to Windows 7 which will install version12 which will solve problem and I understand it will also enable me to run several XP applications which Vista did not.
