HD editor for PC

Hi, i got a camera, its the Kodak Zi6. The problem im having is that Windows movie maker cant edit them, i want to be able to put clips together, maybe add effects - without loss of the HD quality. I am willing to pay for the software, so please, does anyone have any suggestions?
I really want to get it sorted for christmas.

is pretty good for the price. But you will be needing some pretty serious hardware if you expect to be able to edit HD video without spending weeks doing it!
