I don't know. Because I don't know what its function is. I keep getting INTERNAL ERROR 2908 on the screen when I go into some files, so I thought I'd uninstall it, but I don't want to if it's important.

Presumably you have (or had) and HP All-in-one or scanner.
The document viewer is used for viewing, e-mailing, and converting to text, scanned documents.

There's an article here:

that claims the "INTERNAL ERROR 2908" message is caused by a bug in the Windows Installer, and can be fixed by deleting this registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
