SKY+HD

My Sky+ box finally died on me at the weekend. Sky are doing a £49 deal for SK+HD, so I am having it installed later this week.
My question is regarding the resolution of Sky HD channels. I always assumed that HD meant 1080i or 1080p (my TV goes upto 1080i), but a friend of mine tells me that he thinks the Sky HD channels are broadcast in 720 resolution. Does anyone know if this is true?
Also, I have had a Blu Ray player for a couple of years now, how does the quality of Sky HD compare to Blu Ray?
