When using Headphone/microphone handsfree cable thingy with iphone, can the normal 3.5mm headphone jack be used to use the microphone or does the other slot have to be used (the one on the bottom, don't know what its called)??? basically, can i use a headphone/microphone cable from another phone which uses the standard 3.5mm headphone jack?

Yes you can use other makers headsets with a standard jack
