Wireless connection

For three years my wireless connection has been faultless, but for about a month now, and perhaps once every two three days, it isn't there when I start my desktop or laptop. It is easy enough to disconnect and in ten seconds reconnect the router - and then everything works perfectly. Two questions: why is this suddenly happening, and is it symptomatic of a bigger problem that might develop?

First thing I'd do is change the channel the router is using for the wireless, it's possible that a nearby neighbour has got a router that is operating on the same channel.

Thank you, but the nearest neighbour is about a quarter of a mile away. We live in the back of beyond.
I have had the same type of problem. Turned out to be a wireless phone nearby. Bought a new phone at different frequency and all is good.
