can you upgrade a usb port on a laptop

I have a laptop that has a version 1 USB port and need to change it to a version 2 so it will work with my ipod. Is there an adaptor or card I can buy. I know you can for a PC but is it possible for a laptop. What would it be called had a look on pcworld but was not to sure what i was lookign for thanks

you can get a pcmcia to usb2 adaptor from maplins.
