Google and Internet explorer not working

Im using an asus laptop on windows and i'm currently having to use the slow browser opera as whenever I click on googlechrome it says

The webpage at http://www.theanswerbank.co.uk/ might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address.


And when I click on ie, it says

Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage

Most likely causes:
You are not connected to the Internet.
The website is encountering problems.
There might be a typing error in the address.

And when I click on "Diagnose connection problem" it then says " Windows is configured to use a proxy server to connect to websites but the server is not responding to requests right now"

Can someone please please help me?

open IE, click on the toold menu > internet option, then click on the connections tab and at the bottom click on the lan settings button.

you can remove all ticks from all boxes on this page, then click OK a few times and try again.

Totally agree with Chuck's solution, but I'd also consider WHY the proxies were there in the first place. Is it some weird setup from when you bought the machine? If so, this has been solved by Chuck. Another option is that (if it's a work machine) the proxies are there to connect you at work, so to use the internet at work you will need to re-enable the proxies. (There are ways, depending on your rights on the computer, to automate this). If neither of these, an antivirus and malware scan would not hurt.
