using an sd card for archiving

Am thinking of buying an sd card for archiving photos....has anyone else done this before ....are there any drawbacks....want to avoid having to write to cd ....thanks.

It will be a lot more expensive than buying a few CDs...
Right, SD cards are insanely exspensive compared to CDs and won't last much longer, they will deteriorate over time much like CDs. Best you can do is buy a pack of branded CDs (they'll cost more but last longer) and keep them nice and safe in cases, back them up onto other high quality cds (or dvds) in a couple of years time. Nothing digital will last forever.
