When I bought my PC back in 1998 I received an encyclopaedia on CD-ROM called Infopedia by a company called Softkey. It's been invaluable. Not sure of the version but it was updated to about 1996.

Does anyone know if there is a more recent version and where I could buy it?

I don't think that a recent version was ever produced. You may want to try Microsoft's "Encarta" or search amazon.co.uk for "encyclopedia" to get a few ideas.

the Britannica one is pretty good.
I got it for free with Tiscali recently although i have no idea why!
