Fridge Freezer running noisily
18 Answers
I don't know which subject to post this under but maybe some electrical repairer might know the answer. My three year old frost free fridge freezer has suddenly started making a lot of rattling noise and when I open the fridge door I can hear that it is the fan. I can hear it slow down and stop. This is a Bosch model KGN 39V 00GB. I can't afford the £85 call out cost if it is something I can do myself. At the back of the fridge section, inside is a plastic cover which can be removed. I know this because after I had had it delivered I had to call out a Bosch engineer who removed it and used double sided sticky tape to fix it back in place. This had been omitted by the manufacturers thus the fridge compartment was far too cold and ruined all the salad food and froze everything else. I think these are probably badly assembled.

I would suspect that a valve may need changing, and/ or the fan. If a valve, you cannot do this yourself as the refrigerant has to be exhausted and captured, a new valve usually soldered in and then recharged.
Best for you is to take out a maintenance contract which you can have for one year, and pay for that.

Had a similar sounding problem myself. The back of freezer was where my problems where, according to the wonderful repair man who showed OH how to repair,it was caused by frost/icebergs building up around the fan!You would not belive the size of the build up.Unfortunately it was not just a case of unscrew one thing and there you go,but going by my experience I would try a local repair person who offers 'no fix no fee'Yes,you may have to pay about 80 quid but it is cheaper than a new freezer and ours needs tending to every 4-5 months.
Things aint made like they used to!-or rubbish luck in my case

What there should be and what is are 2 completely different matters. My hotpoint made so much noise it had to be switched off at the wall at night till the freezer problem was sorted. The cover at the back does not look like it comes off,but that little bug was covering the fan, which despite being in a frost free freezer, had iced up.I was told only to put boxes in the top compartment as bags can 'cover' on the air vent/intake
