Decent binoculars

I'm wanting to buy a decent set of binoculars. I understand that there are some with anti-shake capabilities which are heavier because of batteries. Are they worth the money? I will get plenty of use from them. Or should I save some money and get a normal set but at the higher end of the spectrum? Any suggestions gratefully received!

Depends on what you are going to use them for. The higher resolution you use the more you will need a tripod to hold them steady, so for normal use get a pair of 10x60 lenses.

I used to use a pair of Canon image stabilised binoculars but found the batteries did wear out pretty quickly, Spent more money and bought a pair of Leicas, Lighter, waterproof and they came with a thirty year guarantee which will see me out I think

I used to do a lot of fellwalking, and I used a pair of Tasco binoculars, 8 x 30, and found them to be just right for finding vague footpaths, stiles from the far side of fields, and so on. They weren't too heavy, either.

Thanks all. Have seen a pair of Nikon Sporter EL 10x50 which look good. I will take your advice and try them first!
