8ohm speakers/4ohm amplifier

I am intending to connect disco speakers with a rating of 8ohm to a power amplifier with rating of 4ohms. What are the implications and is there alteration I can make to solve any issues?

Assuming that it's not a valve amp with an output transformer, you'll simply get approximately half the rated output of the amp. i.e, if it's rated at 200 watts into 4 ohms, you'll get around 100 watts output.

If you are connecting a pair of 8ohm speakers into separate channels,then the total output impedance will be 4ohms.So you will then get the full output in watts as stated on the amplifier specifications.

paintpowder1 is, of course, talking total ***. In a stereo amp, the output impedance refers to each of the channels separately - a stereo amp being simply to mono amps in a box.

So what does two 8ohm speakers connected in parallel give you....4ohms of course! I'm sorry you did'nt understand my answer....i am trying to be helpful.

If you connect the speakers into separate channels as you describe, then they will not be in parallel, they will be connected individually to two separate 4 ohm sources.

Two 8ohm speakers into the left and right channels of my amp will give a total output impedance of 4ohms....it's in all my text books....i don't understand your logic.

Maybe it's your ambiguous use of English that's the problem.
A pair of 8 Ohm speakers connected to EACH channel will give 4 Ohms per channel, but that ain't what you said.

Thank you,that's what i've been saying all along. I figured you might just be misunderstanding the way i put it,but thats the way it was taught to me at college and university.
And by the way,i have a lot of respect for all the AB,ers here including you, who are doing their very best to help others solve their problems,most of whom are very dignified with their responses....it's just that i don't think it's very helpful to say they're speaking*** even if they are....having said that ,there's certainly no hard feelings on my part!
