Annoying page hijack

Whilst on this site I sometimes try a click something and then al of a sudden the "pkr.com' poker site suddenly appears and when I try and click on the "X'' to get rid of it keeps displaying "close all tabs" leaving me no choice but to get rid of all tabs including this site! Doestis happen to anyone else, and is there anyone I can complain to as this constant "Hijacking' is just wasting my time ad getting me pretty annoyed after the hundred or so times its happened?

I get no popups or anything from this site.

I'd suggest that you run a full virus scan and download malwarebytes and run a full scan with that.

Also make sure you are using the latest version of whichever browser you use and have the pop-up blocker turned on. If you happen to use firefox then I'd also recommend installing the adblock plus add on.

The vast majority of the 'regulars', here in AB's Technology section, use Firefox. Some others use Chrome or Safari. Hardly anyone uses Internet Explorer.

Firefox is generally regarded as a much better browser than IE but it really excels when you use your choice of add-ons with it. The most popular add-ons are probably the British English dictionary (so that Firefox can automatically spell-check posts like this one) and, as Chuck suggests, AdBlock Plus (which gets rid of the ads on this page, so that it loads much faster).

Ok Thanks chuck and chris, Im now using firefox and the adverts previously around this sites page are now no longer there, lets hope that pkr website sods off too! lol!

Given that you've been running internet explorer up until now, and that have pretty much confirmed that it's infected with spyware or a browser hijack of some kind, I would strongly suggest you follow chuck's suggestion about anti-malware.

Just because that one instance of your problem is now seemingly solved by switching browsers, isn't to say that your machine doesn't have spyware on it. Visible browser hacks can be the tip of an iceberg of malware infestation. A lot of spyware is insidious. It's purpose for you NOT to know it's there. Where there is smoke - and an age old installation of IE - there's fire. Download and run malwarebytes and be sure. It's free and won't take you long.

Mobius is there any particular program thats better then the rest?

There's lots of choice available hannibalsmith, but malwarebytes is a very effective and widely trusted program. Probably why chuck recommended it. It's a program you install and run occasionally; it doesn't run in the background or start with your pc like an antivirus program.

Download it from http://www.malwarebytes.org/ choose "free download" option. Install it, and then update it using the update functionality built into it. Then I would suggest you run a "full" scan (full and quick scans are offered). See if it finds anything. After that just occasionally run a quick scan to make sure things are okay. Post back if you encounter issues or problems or have further questions.
