Are there any recommended sites where I can obtain .avi and .mpeg files on particular subjects. Especially music videos.

forget that! download kazza or winmx from ww.kazza.com or www.winmx.com you'll be able to get music, videos and software all for free and its probably the best selection too! !! lots of music videos on there !!
