Have recently heard there will be a sub 500 dollar imac soon....imac mini.

Am thinking of buying one....but up to now have been windows.........how would stuff work  (word docs) could I send a doc written on a mac and be able to read it on a windows machine???? Is it a good idea.....

There is already a version of Word available for the Mac.

 

I heard that this imac is going to be box only and you need to supply keyboard, mouse and monitor - that would help to explain the cheap price.

The new Mac Mini is out now. It's about 6.5inches x 2inches (high). As ursula62 says it's just the box. You need to buy a keyboard, mouse and monitor. It does look dinky but can only have a maximum of 1Gb of RAM, which for a Mac running the new OSX (Panther) isn't that much. So I would have thought that memory-hungry graphic's work and intensive 3D gaming would make it groan a bit. But for Word stuff, email, internet browsing it would be fine. PC Word docs can be read on a PC and vice-versa � the only thing is that because of difference in fonts etc, the text can reflow a little bit, but nothing major. Hope this helps! :)
