Check the obvious.

Speakers plugged in, turned on, volume up?

volume on computer turned up? (speaker icon down by the clock)

What version of windows? and what is the make and model of the computer?

Right click on the "my computer" icon and select properties, then click on the hardware tab, click the device manager button.

Now have a look down the list, is there anything with a red cross or a yellow exclamation mark?

And firefox is a browser, not a make and model of a computer!

OK, download the drivers for your sound card and reinstall them and see if that fixes the problem.

Down in the right hand corner using the left handed arrow if necessary find your speaker icon and check that it is not got a tick on mute. I cant see from your dialogue so far that you have not checked on this essential, and then that your speaker is switcher on.

the hardware was not installed
because the wizard canot find the necessary software i do not have a speaker icon near the clock

It sounds like you did not download the driver from the internet? you need to get it from the manufacturers website and then install it, just selecting update driver and letting the computer try and search for it won't work!
