it's a predecessor to recordable DVDs, 5.2GB is how much data it can hold, WORM stands for Write Once Read Many, i.e. once it's written to it can't be deleted or changed but can be read many times,

Although a fairly good backup media in its day it's obsolete now.

Yup. They used to cost the best part of £100 from what I recall. Now you can buy a blank DVD for a few pence.
