Am I being stupid or should I be able to connect my mobile to my PC using Bluetooth? If so, HOW?

You need a computer that accepts Bluetooth.  Some laptops have this built in but for the most part you require a Bluetooth USB dongle.  Once installed you need to get the computer to search for devices and then pair them.
