Problems with Kazaa
11 Answers
I've been using Kazaa for a while to download music, but I've recently had two problems when trying to download music from contemporary bands (e.g. Franz Ferdinand, Interpol).
1. Some files just won't play - no error message, just silence.
2. The files that do play are 30 second samples from sites where you have to pay to download the full track - I don't want these but I can't identify them until I've downloaded them.
Any advice would be appreciated (but don't tell me to use a different program - I like Kazaa).

Use a different program! haha. The network which Kazaa uses is (as mentioned) being flooded by these fake tracks so there simply isn't any way round it. You could try a similar prog like Soulseek, WinMX or something similar or use something a little different such as a bittorrent client or even DC++
Download WinMX or BearShare (wich is very very similar to kazaa). I also found that on Kazaa, the franz ferdinand tracks are all 16 minutes of no sound. On these other programmes they are sweet. If it is the kazaa setup you like, run a search in kazaa, bearshare etc for a program/file/software called 'Kazaalite'. You should be able to find the setup program for this and its much safer than normal kazaa (no ads or spyware....wich normal kazaa has in abundance).
As more and more file sharers move away from Kazaa (which is in essence now a obsolete network) all that's going to be left is people who are trying to make you pay or as others have pointed out, flooded with fake files supposedly inserted into the network my the RIAA et al. I know you do not want to change to another P2P system but you will soon be forced to out of sheer frustration. Bitorrent is by far one of the best networks out there at the moment and accounts for a large percntage of all internet traffic. The main site for Bitorrent, Suprnova, was closed down recently but has now returned under a new, iproved guise known as Exeem. It was released on Saturday to the public and on first impressions seems to have a lot of potential. I still much prefer Usenet to any P2P network. It's been around since the dawn of the internet and is sooooo much faster than P2P. Maybe we'll see you on either bitorrent or Usenet when you've finally given up on Kazaa.
