Can I remove a high pitched noise from MPEG files?

This is probably a long shot but here goes. My mate recorded a video of a day out we had. However a lot of the time there is a high pitched noise that can be heard. I know that the noise was caused by someone's hearing aid. His camcorder is one of those hard disc recorder ones and the files it makes are MPEG files.

My question is, is there any possible way I can get rid of the high pitched noise, while still keeping the noise of people talking? Any help greatly appreciated.

Your best bet is to play the audio channels though a graphic equalizer, adjusting the settings to achieve the best results. With the high frequencies cut, you might get acceptable/improve audio, but it depends how high pitched the unwanted noise is. If the noise frequency is above 5KHz, good results should be achievable – but at frequencies less than this (and/or contain a wide frequency range), cutting the noise might reduce the general audio level, resulting in something worse than the original recording
Audacity software allows graphic equalization, rather than using physical equalizer.

I have Audacity so I'll see if I can figure out what you're saying. If there's any other software for this I don't mind paying for it if it would definitely work.
Try the following FREE program which has a noise reduction section as well as many other excellent functions.

This works better without the - on the end.

With the file imported into Audacity, from the Effects drop down menu – select Equalization.
From the Equalization window, select ‘Load predefined curve’
Using the mouse – adjust the +/-24dB boost/cut response curve as required (Boost low frequencies/cut high frequencies – with a sharp cut off). It may take a bit of trial & error to find the optimum cut off frequency for your recording.
