would anyone know why my hp laptop has suddenly started to shut down unless it is on charge. The battery is fully charged most of the time when this happens. Many thanks for any help

Have you set the critical battery alarm to a very high level?

check under power settings in the control panel.

HP do a Battery Check utility for many of their laptops. See if they do it for yours, install and run it - could be your battery has had it.
