Disk partitioning
4 Answers
My PC is about 2 years old. HDD is 250GB which is bigger than I really need since I don't download many videos. Anyway, it's partitioned into two parts, C ~ 2D, and C is half empty whilst D is totally empty, so I figure I might mess around installing Xubuntu or something onto D.
What I'm wondering is, since I won't really need more than about 15GB for my Linux workspace, whether I should grab the 15GB from D and then give the rest back to C, grab the 15GB from D and leave the disk partitioned into 3, or give the whole of D to my Linux installation. Does it even matter?

Don't think that really addresses the question here Count.
Personally I would leave the C partition well alone unless there is a real pressing need to resize it, resizing a system partition always carries a risk and it's not something I'd do unless absolutely necessary.
Either install it onto D as it is, or resize D and install it onto a smaller 3rd...

Either install it onto D as it is, or resize D and install it onto a smaller 3rd partition if you want, neither of these risk anything on the C drive.
(or if you just want to play with linux and your machine is a reasonable speed then install it as a virtual machine under windows)
