However the best way to avoid spam is to use 'disposable' email addresses. Have just one or two email addresses which you give out to friends, family members or colleagues. For everything else (such as joining sites like this one, or for internet purchases) set up new accounts which you can simply forget about if they start collecting spam. Most free email services don't support 'POP3' (or 'IMAP'), so they can't be used with mail clients, such as Outlook, Outlook Express or Windows Mail. (They can only be accessed via the web). But Gmail and Gawab both allow you to use an email client. Instructions for setting up a new account with Gawab can be found in paragraphs 3 et seq of my first post here:
