this is the message that comes up on my lumix dmc-fz8 digital camera...any thoughts?

You would look a bit daft if you left the lens cap on.

If removeable lens, check contacts.
Try removing battery and refitting/rebooting.
Otherwise, I assume a fault.

yes, just take off the lens cap and press > button on the navigation panel. Or is it showing when the lens cap is already off?

I've got a Lumix Al, and indeed it does come up if the cap is left on.(i've done it more than once) If hanhol would state that in the question then it would be a lot clearer
