If I bought it without a contract on pay as you go, how much would I have to top up a month for internet on any network?

This is a bit difficult to answer, because data has been free up until now. It is now metered, so it would depend on how much data you download. If you constantly used iPlayer or streaming music channels, then you will clock up more data than if you are accessing Facebook a couple of times a day.

data used over wifi hotspots (or over home wifi) is still free.
