SKY+ is getting too dear......
6 Answers
OK I got an email today from Sky telling me it's going up, again! OK if I revert to simple Freeview can anyone suggest a good TIVO box that gives equivalent recoding facilities, ie series link etc. Ideally should also be able to play from an external hard drive and be able to burn DVD's. Preferably HD too. I know it's a lot of demands. Thanks!

I got mine from Richer sounds for around £230, but that's it, once the initial outlay, no further payments, and HD content (although a bit limited at the moment) is free. I also have the Panasonic DVD recorder with Freeview and it's easy to drop recorded progremmes from the Humax on to DVD if required.
I use Pavtube Video Converter for coverting TiVo videos for my iPad. It works very well and I haven't really had any problems. Conversion speed seems fine and the videos look good on the iPad. I saw Pavtube mentioned in the TiVo forums as a good way to convert for the iPad so I decided to try it. It's much better than TiVo's converter.

>not quite sure what you mean about the 2 sattellite leads, sure that will still be using sky.
You can connect a Freesat box to a "Sky" dish (built into the Humax HDR).

I live in southern France and have a metronic digital/analog satellite decoder which is connected to a 85cm dish which is mounted on a diseq 1.2 positioner motor. I can get astra 2A, astra 19, hispasat, atlantic bird and hotbird. Astra 2A gives me all the UK tv channels except the bbc red button channels. After the initial outlay of £150 I can get more channels than I can possibly watch for free. Astra 2A is easier to get in UK and will not require an 85cm dish. You can watch old films for free as well as on sky.
