Nero won't burn dvd

Have had a new one installed and it's been dodgy from day one, and now it just will not record to dvde at all, says recordable disc is full, it is not a recordable disc and it is a new one, have tried several but no joy. Have windows xp, is there any other way I can record to dvd-R??
