hi there, i dunno whats goin on but everytime we turn on our internet this 'about:blank:site comes up? and also it wont let us access any msn or hotmail sites becoz this just keeps flashing up, anyone know wots goin on? ps i have windows ME by the way

Sounds like spyware. Download Spybot search & destroy and run it. That should solve your problems.

Have you downloaded any updates?

If that still doesn't work, you could try some other anti-spyware software, maybe adaware.

Oooh, that's a really nasty one. My dad had it on his computer and it was a pain in the neck to get rid of. First thing to do is turn off third-party browser extensions in your IE preferences. That'll stop it popping up. Then do a web search to find instructions on deleting it properly. It's likely to involve some registry editing, I'm afraid.

Going into the registry is never a good idea unless you know exactly what you are doing.

I had the "about blank" problem on my computer and got rid of it without touching the registry.

I cant remember exactly how I'm afraid but I know I ran ADAWARE,SPYBOT SEARCH AND DESTROY and CWSHREDDER and that got rid of it.

You have probably run the first two so maybe running CWSHREDDER wouldnt be a bad idea?

I had this as well, very nasty. I fixed it with AdwareAway which is shareware for 30 days, but you should only really need it for an hour or less! You can get it from http://www.adwareaway.com/
From what I recal you need to go through the instructions pretty thoroughly 'cos it isn't immediately obvious how the best bit works. But it does work.

I had this too, I used Spybot but this didn't clear it, I managed to use Spybot the block it from attempting to hi -jack the homepage because Spybot alerts when it is trying to change the home page, but I also used PC-Cillian Internet Security and this found the Trojan that causes this and killed it. Try using Homeguard as well as this locks your homepage completely from hi-jackers.
