how can i download my pics?

i have taken pictures on my motorola v525 mobile and bought a cable to put into my pc so i can download the pics. when i run the cd-rom i follow the instructions that came with it but it seems to be missing some of the options.  i get a warning on my pc telling me that the software isn't compatible with my programme (windows XP home), i think it has something to do with the device driver but i don't know a lot about this sort of stuff.  do i need to download a device driver that is compatible with the phone software?? any ideas??
