At present, there are no sites that allow you to legally download the sort of films and TV shows that most people are interested in. (Cue posts with sites where you can get the odd episode). If you want (say) Spiderman 2 or "24" Day 4, you'll have to pay/wait until they are shown on a channel you subscribe to.
What sites like OMP do is take your money and sell you a P2P program (Kazaa, BitTorrent, eMule or similar) that you then use to download media via a P2P network. This is illegal, as it breaches copyright laws. That doesn't mean to say that 1000's of people don't do it and don't get caught (though various film and record companies are starting to "make examples of" some downloaders). However, most of the people using the P2P (Peer To Peer) networks just download the software off the net for free, rather than pay some dodgy company for the privilege of them supplying freely available software to those foolish enough to pay them.
