Following Honstens question re Linux, is it possible to get Windows programs to run on it? Is there a windows runtime available?

Yes. Wine is an Open Source implementation of the Windows API on top of X and Unix. - http://www.winehq.org/
Be aware that you are emulating windows - the entire OS and anything it is running. If you have a mid ranged PC, expect a slow day. Don't even think about games and anything CPU intensive.

As the project implies, Wine Is Not and Emulator (WINE).  So it WON'T run slowly :

Also, there is a .NET runtime available called Mono which now has some support for the System.Windows.Forms namespace with the help of a Wine extension.

Oh, never knew that. I'd love to see it running UT2004 as well as my XP though...
