I've inadvertantly uninstalled the sound programe off an old Advent/Windows XP laptop, I wanted to use it purely to play music and Videos so I removed any Internet programe. Now it's useless. For some reason It won't restore back to the day I did it, it keeps freezing. Can it be saved? You can tell I'm not really at home with computers.

You've not said what model, so the below may not be correct as it's just a generalisation for advents....

Firstly, make sure you have no personal data on the machine that you need, because doing the following will delete everything from the hard drive and put it back to as it was the day it was born....

As soon as you turn the laptop on start tapping the F10 key and you should get the restore menu which will enable you to restore the system.... if you see the windows logo then it's too late and you need to try again... if it doesn't work then try a few times, if it still won't work then it's possible that your model doesn't have the recovery partition (or it's been deleted at some point in the computers life)
