For a long time my lady has been unable to get proper volume from her PC. She gets the opening fanfare when logging on and can hear the AOL welcome and "You have Email," though only at low volume. I have checked all connections and everything that should be enabled appears to be (and with volume controls, where applicable, turned right up). What might I have overlooked? Any suggestions would be welcome but please keep it simple as I'm no technocrat!

Thanks Coldicote. I think you might have something with that volume control suggestion but the screen seems to be overscanning (I think that's the term) so that I cannot see what lies at the margins - probably the very icon I need! Any idea how I can adjust the screen view? TNX

Two possibilities: 1. right click the volume control (bottom right?) which should open a control panel with various options for ajustment. Sometimes mine shuts itself right down for some reason I cannot fathom. 2. Do you have a 'sound effects' icon? Mine clicks open a panel headed AC 97 Audio Configuration giving a drop-down list for ENVIRONMENT, with options such as 'living room', 'bathroom', 'carpeted hallway' and very many others with various sound qualities. I have Windows XP if that's any help. Good luck.

Have found the sound now, thanks to your helpful suggestion and, yes, it was the sound effects icon that did the trick. Cheers!
So glad to hear of your success and to feel that I have for once been useful.
