Why do some of my previous searches auto load into the search panel of sites I haven't been on previously, and how can I delete these?

And how do some sites advertisements, including AB's know what city you live in?

1) clear your browsers form history

2) from your IP address. (though it's not always accurate, my IP address says I'm in Swindon whereas I'm pretty sure I'm still in Essex!)
All computers on the net are known by a string of numbers called an IP address. This can be used by websites to narrow down where you are visiting from.

Thanks very much for your answers.

Chuck.

Using Firefox I clicked Tools/ Clear Recent History.

A window appeared with Time Range to Clear set at 1 hour.

Browsing & download history (ticked)
Form & search history (ticked)
Cookies (un-ticked)
Cache (ticked)
Active log-ins (ticked)
Site preferences (un-ticked)

Is this all correct please?
Obviously with the time range set to one hour then it will only clear things that have been stored in the last hour... if you want to clear everything you need to set that to everything.

other than that, you don't really need active logins ticked just to clear the form history.
