Is my cursor wondering off to the top left hand corner all by itself?

This use to happen when I was using a wireless mouse and kepboard when the batteries needed changing. I'm actually using the plug in mouse at the moment so is there another reason for it?

I'm still using the wireless keyboard and have changed the batteries just in case...

Mine does that with a plugin in mouse too sometimes. I just move the mouse and it's ok again. I suppose I should buy a new mouse really (or clean the one I have).
Have you checked for dust underneath the mouse? I'm assuming it is an optical mouse and not one with a ball in it, if it is, try blowing into the bit where the light is, to dislodge any debris.
Question Author
Yes it's optical. I've tried blowing it :-( (lol)

Moving it doesn't work SB.....it just slowly wonders off. Clicking on threads is like playing a game...
Are you using the mouse on a plain, non-reflective surface? Some shiny and patterned mouse mats can cause the cursor to wander.

I'm using a hard back book. Tried it without the cover...still no good.
If it's an optical mouse, I wouldn't use a mouse mat
ummmm, mine was doing that, really annoying, I opened it up took the ball out gave it a good wipe, inside there are little things that the ball rolls on, I found mine caked with dirt (sweat from your hand & dust) i got a cocktail stick and picked it all off, put the ball back and hey presto its working fine now,
Give it a go.

What would you use?
I don't use anything with my optical mouse, its just on a plain white surface.

A mouse with balls, do they still make them!!? Geeesh I hated those things, always having to clean them or they get all lumpy, a thing of the past I'm happy to say.
I just use mine straight on the desk.

As others have said when it's happened to me it's usually a dirty mouse...
i've had a couple of mice do that and I've just ended up replacing the mouse, a cheapo mouse is less than a tenner.

(and you should be able to use pretty much any non-shiny surface with a optical mouse)

It's bloody annoying. I have to move the mouse towards a question and wait for it to wonder over the title and quickly try and click. It took me 4 attempts to open this...

Can everyone please make all their question titles long please :-)
Question Author
Dirty, balls, blowing....lol

I'll get a new mouse but there's nowhere near me and I don't have transport.
Is something dragging on the mouse's wire?
Question Author
No...nothing pulling :-(
Question Author
It's happening even if I hold it in the air...
Have you tried hitting it? It may not make it work, but you will feel better for it. Wait until you have access to a new one though before giving it a good slap. lol
lol, well I have no idea what to suggest now!
Unplugged it and plugged it back in.......?
Have you tried a new mouse?
Try me.
