What is the make and model of the computer?

Hi ChuckFickens. Its an Acer Aspire, SA80-Z970 (not sure of last bit as not in a very accessible place to read it)
What does Device Manager say against Audio ? .. (Make sure you select "show hidden devices" in view menu.
Device fitted should be in there .. Double click and see if it says disabled and for what reason.
Also (particularly if it's XP) check the windows audio service hasn't stopped in control panel > administrative tools > services
If it was a PC .. I would have said ..
Remove the side panel ... Reseat the card in it's slot ... Reload drivers

But I really hate lappy's : )
I like lappys... they earn me loads of beer money (mainly from replacing DC jacks when people trip over the power lead!)

Anyhow.... SA80 doesn't seem to be a correct model for an Acer Aspire (isn't a SA80 an assault rifle!)

But, once the device manager and services have been checked it's worth finding, downloading and installing the drivers for the sound card from acers site, double check the model number and get the drivers from here..
