i have updated windows media player to wmp 10 now it says" no cd or dvd burner has been detected press F5 to refresh the player". this does not work ihave tried updating drivers but is says the driver i have got is up to date. any help will be grateful

If you didnt have a CD/DVD Writer drive in the 1st place, then, that is why, if not, it is because WMP 10 isnt recognizing the driver you have. i would say, stick with WMP 9.
