Hi...I also have a 5mp camera..Canon Powershot S50...and I ALWAYS use the highest resolution....I print all sizes from passport to A4 on my Epson R300 and I never cease to be amazed at the quality I get from this set up combined of course with the absolute best quality paper you can get. The thing with always using the highest resolution is that it allows you to heavily CROP the pics you take and still have lovely 6X4 prints ...smaller resolution is fine if you just want to view them on your PCor send in emails but for prints..."big is best" .....hope this helps....
As the other person answered, it is always best for print quality to shoot at the highest MegaPixel amount your camera has. Keep in mind that the larger MP size you shoot in, that it will take up more memory so be sure to have extra memory handy. I don't know about your camera brand but my camera also has a "Fine or Standard" setting which will also affect the quality. For best printing I always select "Fine".
