my husband will not use his mobile phone and I was wondering if I bought him a pager so that I can get him to contact me if necessary. I don't know very much about pagers and was wondering if I have to pay for a contract or does it just cost the price of a text after I buy the actual pager. Probably being old fashioned but it is the only way I can think of getting him to contact me if he is out shopping.

You can still get pagers, either to buy outright or on a minimum of 1 year contract. See the following links:

http://www.starpaging.com/vodafone-pagers.htm

These on the Vodaphone network seem to have the cheapest, from £3.75 a month for 3 years plus 4.2p per minute on rental, To buy they are about £55, but the call costs are about 42.5p per minute...

I didn't know you could still get them! I had one years ago from work, we had to pay an annual contract for it then I think it was so much per message, because you couldn't send a message yourself, you had to ring a central number and they sent the message to the pager. It may be different these days!
No sure though, why does he need to contact you? - we never take our mobiles out when we go shopping, wouldn't even think about it.

I do not always go with him. Just wondered if this could be an alternative. Thanks anyway Boxtops.
My sister and her husband got walkie talkies when they went shopping and got separated, otherwise they would never find each other.

would need to be long range as the shops are 4 miles away. good idea though.

Pagers direct seem to be the biggest company in the business, but appear to be dearer!

Good luck
