laptop isn't charging!

My laptop isn't charging, when i use it unplugged, it will warn me the battery is too low almost straight away so i plug it in and the warning light goes off but if i leave it for an hour or so then unplug it again, it still says battery too low. why is it doing this? and what do i do?

How old is it?
Batteries don't last forever and you may need to buy a new one.

I would say you need a new battery.

Probably the battery had it.

What laptop is it, some have a battery check utility.
