Anybody used an ION PC 2 SD for old photos etc etc

Has anybody got one of these and any opinion on it.

Is it MAC compat - my sis is thinking of getting her partner one.......

it scans directly onto a SD memory card, so there is no involvement of a computer at all.

once it's scanned a mac will be able to read the SD card fine as long as it's formatted in FAT32 (and as long as you have a card reader)

which would you get then an ION or a Canon 8800f, or somehting else if money was no issue (which it isn't for my sis)
the ion is 1800DPI, the canon you mention can do up to 4800 x 9600DPI and I expect the canon will also give a lot more control over the scan settings (exposure and colour balance etc). So out of those two I'd definitely get the canon..

Personally though, I'd find a slide/negative scanner very restrictive and would rather get a decent flat bed scanner with the ability to to handle slides.... but then again, I've never even owned a printer, so what do I know :)
I have been using one of these devices this weekend to put some old snaps onto my ipad using the camera connection kit and i must say the results are pretty good considering how quick and easy to use it is. Plus you can get them off ebay for about £80.
