External DVD writer

My old laptop went wrong recently but a neighbour has sold me a second hand one cheap it's a Acer Aspire 2000 running windows XP, it has a CD/DVD reader built in but of course it will not burn DVDs. so I purchased an external DVD burner from Amazon, it is the plug n play type that connects only via a usb cable and has no software disc with it.
When I connected it the first time a pop up appeared after a minute or two saying "new hardware found - LG DVD ROM DRN 8080b" then it displayed " new hardware installed and ready to use" however the DVD burning program that I use, Convertxtodvd4 does not seem to see it. any ideas on how to rectify this please.

and according to that you should have a settings menu! (it's so helpful when manuals are wrong!)
Try looking on the tools menu for a settings or options and have a look round, there will be a place you can select the DVD drive it uses and I expect it set to the wrong one at the moment.
(I have no personal experience of this software BTW, as I said I downloaded the manual and had a quick look through it)
