My Compaq Laptop Not Loading Up

I can turn the ON button fine and the blue light flashes as normal, and it comes on. But it will not load up to my desktop. its a Presario F500 if that helps. Thanks x

Any error messages?
Does any text appear on screen (as though it is booting)?
Is there disc drive activity?
Are you correctly plugged into the mains (i.e. battery is flat)?
