I have just bought a Sony A33 (they are refunding the VAT!). Im am not sure whether to buy a 8gig or 16gig memory card. What do you recommend? Also I would like a wireless remote shutter release and am confused about all the various products on the market. There are Sony Alpha wireless remote shutter release devices for about a fiver. Is that all I need? Does it have its own inbuilt receiver? The manual is not very clear.

There is no obvious answer to this. It depends how many typical images will fit on the memory card and how easy it will be to get to a computer and download them. Only you know things like these.

you should get hundreds of photos on an 8GB card, but it's like scotman says, who knows how many you will need? The bigger card might be useful if you plan on shooting a lot of HD films.

Thats a 14MP camera, so a 8GB card will hold about 160 pictures, and a 16GB about 320.

As, I think Im right in saying, the A330 has no movie facility I guess you could get away with the smaller card. A 16gb card really isa huge capacity, will you really need that much storage on the camera before you download your pictures somwhere? More importantly I would want to be sure I bought the fastest card I could afford, a class 6 card is essential to match a nice fast shutter speed, or the camera will have to slow down to wait for the card to catch up between shots. I have a 4gb class 6 in my camera, and its plenty big enough, holding about 400 shots! Plus it only cost about seven quid!

Go for the biggest you can afford. I run an 8Gb which is just about adequate. I keep a spare one, also 8Gb, for bigger jobs such as events, when I can take literally hundreds of shots. I shoot the highest resolution my camera has, and I shoot JPG. If you shoot in RAW then you're going to be using a lot more of the memory, and the same applies if you want the camera to do much in-camera processing as opposed to just 'straight' shots.

I agree with Impret-Sir that you should invest in a fast card for a high MP camera, but the A33 certainly does have a movie facility, it's capable of shooting full HD movies.

To amend an error in my earlier post, the numbers I posted above for the amount of pictures each card can hold were (mistakenly) based on uncompressed pictures, if you save the pictures in JPEG format then a 8GB will hold about 1600 pictures, a 16GB about 3200 pictures.

I've got a 14MP camera and I've just filled up a 4GB card with about 750 photos - that's full size jpegs. That doesn't remotely tally with what Chuck says, so presumably he's measuring them a different way (perhaps he's talking about RAW?) You also have the option to shoot smaller sizes, from 10MP down to 0.3, which would mean you could get more on. It can also shoot moving pictures with audio, AVCHD in my case, but I don't know how much room they're likely to take up as I don't usually do it.
