I don't think anyone is trying to wind any one up.
I maintain that a usable internet connection is only going to be as fast as the slowest part of the route. testing between you and your ISP will give you a good indication of your bearer speed but if you are then being throttled at the perimeter of their network or there is a bottleneck further upstream from your ISPs network then that is going to be the speed you see in everyday use. (though I would like to think if there was a significant bottleneck anywhere it would only be a temporary thing)
Anyhow, I'm certainly not trying to start an argument with mark, but differences of opinion are healthy :)
