turning off windows 7 useless extras?

can some one tell me how to turn off any useless win 7 extras?like aero etc
are there others?

i dont want any extras if they affect performance

I found the book Windows 7 tips and techniques-in easy steps by Stuart Yarnold very good.It has walk through steps to what you can do for faster PC without affecting the performance.As the title says it also has loads of hints and tips,helpful if you want your PC to do what you want,but don't know how to.
