Watching television on your computer

I read with interest the other day about a story in Metro news, where it alleges that the government were considering introducing another TAX in respect of computers as there were a number of people who were now watching television on their computers. Can some one explain to me how this is possible.

Not sure on PC/TV, but it wouldn't surprise me if they cooked up a tax for watching PC/DVD's soon!

Simply plug a TV tuner card into a spare PCI slot in your pooter, plug an aerial into the socket, install the software supplied with the card and off you go.

The reason behind the idea of 'taxing' PCs is for the future when the TV licence fee is finally abolished.

There are so many ways of entertainment provided via PCs, DVDs, the Internet etc. it would be more of an 'entertainment / streaming media'  tax. The broadcasters and program makers have to get some revenue apart from solely relying on advertising.

As dodgyshirt has said, you can buy tuner devices for PCs - either a card to slot inside or an external USB device connected to normal TV aerial or satellite. You must have a TV licence if you have one.
