The revenue from calls provides profit for companies such as Vodafone, which is largely reinvested in services for customers. Mobile phone networks are enormously expensive, and have to be paid for. Mobile phone companies are businesses at the end of the day, and oddly enough they exist to make money. It never ceases to amaze that some people in this country still can't grasp such a basic concept.
