The above camera that I have never had trouble with now says 'batteries need charging'.
This is not true, they are full power and terminals are clean and connect ok. Would a new memory card solve this problem ? Almendros

I wouldn't think the memory card is in any way related to the charge-state of the batteries.
I understand that rechargeable batteries hold less and less charge the more they are recharged unless they are occasionally allowed to become completely discharged.
Humour the camera and try a new set of batteries??

Thanks for advice but if it isnt the memory card then I am stuck. I have never used rechargeables.
I took out Duracell which were showing full power on my electronic tester and put in brand new Panasonic, again tested as full power. but same result "recharge the batteries"
Thanks for troubling...Almendros
The only other thing that comes to mind is that one of the batteries is inserted the wrong way up and they are cancelling each other out, thus making it look as if they are flat and need recharging.??
Strange that you should say this as it keeps happening to me also. Even when there is a completley full battery withing seconds sometimes it says they need changing.

Hi WAK, I've had the camera a couple of years now and know which way round the batteries go.
If you are in doubt, there is a picture under the lid. Apart from this, the camera was working perfectly when I used it a month ago and the battery compartment has not been opened, so the solution would be a little more complicated..thanks Almendros
I have a Canon Powershot and used to have a warning such as this but after doing all the necessary things I continued to use the camera and the notice disappeared. I am now using Energizer rechargeables 2450 mAh in either a 30 hour or a 1 hour charger.
Hi Almendros, I wasn't casting any doubts about your capabilities or intelligence, I was simply offering another logical explanation as an alternative to owning a faulty camera.
Even the cleverest of people do sometimes make the occasional mistake without realising it.
I, too, have a Canon Powershot but, so far, haven't had any problems such as yours with it. Time will probably tell!!!
